Gourmet pizza continues to be popular in Newton, with two new eateries opening for business. On Monday, Jan. 30 Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza opened on Needham Street and just a day later Stone L'Oven opened on Beacon Street in Waban. "So far the community has been amazing, the feedback has been great. Everybody wanted a pizza spot here," said Scott Lopes, founder of Stone L'Oven.
Stone L'Oven originally began in Falmouth in 2011 after Lopes had an idea to combine a café culture with pizza and craft beer. The Falmouth location closed in 2013 but the concept has remained and Newton is the third location, along with one in Brewster and one in Canton.
