The owners of Pizzeria Verita on in Burlington plan to buy two adjacent restaurants on St. Paul Street, including the venerable Italian eatery Trattoria Delia, which has been in business for 24 years. The deal is expected to be completed next Monday, Verita co-owner Leslie McCrorey Wells told the Burlington Free Press. The deal was first reported by Seven Days.
Wells said she and Verita’s co-owner, John Rao, will buy Trattoria Delia and the newer, smaller establishment Sotto Enoteca from founders Tom and Lori Delia. Wells said talk of the deal with the Delias began with a “flippant conversation” with Tom Delia, who she said has been looking to sell the restaurant for a while. He told Wells offhandedly “Why don’t you guys buy it?” and she and Rao, who had been thinking of expanding, began giving the idea more serious thought.
