
In an age where Americans are reaching the ripe old age of 100 and even exceeding, and a good percentage of super seniors engaging in active, productive lives more than ever, in walks Marie Grillo, a perfect case in point. In fact, Marie, who rounded the century mark on Feb. 12, shares her birthday — though they weren’t born in the same year — with famous notables like President Abraham Lincoln, naturalist Charles Darwin, actor Josh Brolin and model/actress Maud Adams.
Born to Italian immigrants, Carmela and Antonio Valletutto. in 1919, the new centenarian made her debut into the world in the Valletutto Dongan Hills home, during a time when it was customary for moms to refrain from having their babies in hospitals. In the “old country” Marie’s mom was a homemaker, where her kitchen had an authentic coal stove, and whose backyard contained a real “outhouse.”
