Spring has sprung: Gerardi's Farmers Market opened Monday in New Brighton.

To make reference to the children's story, "White Snow, Bright Snow" by Alvin Tresselt: There was no feel or look of snow in front of the warehouse stretch next to the "Salt Mines." But along with a damp March wind blowing down Richmond Terrace, the sun shone strongly on a mural, painted last year by Serena Smith of Livingston.

Gerardi's is a family business manned by Vincent and Fran Gerardi along with son Vinny and a very loyal sales staff who returns season after season. Fran Gerardi said that her husband would be bringing in pansies and other early-season flowers starting Tuesday. For now, inventory includes garlic, onions, corn on the cob sold in the husk and lots of citrus.
