
Despite Hollywood television stints and daily toils with their multiple pizzerias, cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basille took time to talk with the Advance about their rise to fame from humble beginnings -- and their favorite pie on S.I. Just as background, the native Staten Islanders have hit the big leagues as far as pizza chefs are concerned. Recently, they landed starring roles on the Cooking Channel's "Pizza Masters."
Most importantly, their Artichoke Basille's parlors thrive -- they run six locations now with that brand which include shops in Chelsea, Greenwich Village, LaGuardia Airport, Resorts World in Jamaica, Queens and one in Berkley, CA. Their flagship restaurant, on 14th Street in the East Village, serves pizza until 4 a.m.
