There is and should always be a mutual and respectful enrichment between the European Union and the United States, President Sergio Mattarella told a delegation of the National American Italian Foundation on Wednesday.
"What has developed between the United States and Europe is a relationship of mutual and respectful enrichment, of restitution, a profound relationship that must be made increasingly stronger, founded as it is on a shared heritage of values and principles, which are part of our common identity and the life of our communities: freedom, equality, human rights, democracy, economic cooperation, market freedom," said the Italian head of state.
"Values and principles that the transatlantic relationship between the United States and Europe has made a goal of hope for many peoples of the world".
