Rome to be European Capital of Space

The Metropolitan City of Rome Capital was elected European Space Capital during the European Council of Mayors of the CVA, Communauté des Villes Ariane, meeting in Seville on November 16, 2024. This is an important recognition for the area, which has played a central role in the European aerospace industry for years.

The CVA is a network that promotes cooperation between cities and industrial companies for the development of European space transportation, raising awareness among citizens and political representatives about industry activities and training future professionals.

Joining the network in 2023, the Metropolitan City of Rome immediately gained a prominent place thanks to its excellences, such as the aerospace district in Colleferro, where essential components for the Ariane launcher are produced, and the research centers in Frascati, home of the European Space Agency's (ESA) ESRIN. It was in Frascati, last July, that the Ariane 6 project, successor to Ariane 5, was presented, the result of collaboration among several European cities.
