On the homepage of Trip Advisor there is a section dedicated to movie destinations: "Ten places from your favorite movies and TV shows to visit in 2023," is the title. First place in the rankings, above Rome and Los Angeles, to Sicily, and credit is due to "The White Lotus," the TV series filmed in Taormina that drew hordes of American tourists: something already seen in Scicli and Ragusa, pilgrimage destinations for fans of Commissario Montalbano, and in Macari, thanks to the fiction "Màkari."

Reviving tourism, full hotels, new jobs, an immediate economic return on the territory equal to double the amount spent by the productions and to be multiplied by five in the long term. The set of "I Leoni di Sicilia" brought 15 million to the island, Indiana Jones 2.2 million euros of hotel induced revenue, with six hundred rooms booked during filming, fifty euros of average daily expenditure and 2300 extras.

The film machine in Sicily never sleeps. "My father used to say that the Island is a natural film set," says director Giovanna Taviani, Vittorio's daughter and Paolo's granddaughter, "Sicily is epic and has always been at the center of directors' attention, with the difference that today the serial language has multiplied the visibility of the Island. Among the upcoming series, the most eagerly awaited is "Il Gattopardo," from Tomasi di Lampedusa's novel, which, sixty years after Luchino Visconti's film adaptation, is returning to TV on Netflix, with filming scheduled for late May in Palermo, Catania and Siracusa.

After director Tom Shankland, Luca Guadagnino, in June, and Gabriele Muccino, in September, are also expected in Sicily. For a week, the Mexican setting of "Queer," the Palermo-based Guadagnino's film starring Daniel Craig, will be reconstructed in western Sicily. Muccino will stay longer for his new film about young people and robbery: eight weeks in Palermo with shooting entirely at night, except for those that will be shot, over the course of a week, in Mondello. September will also be the month of Hella Wenders, granddaughter of the director of "The Sky Above Berlin," who in Siculiana marina, in the province of Agrigento, will shoot a film about adolescent friendship.
