Subiaco, in the province of Rome, has been proclaimed Italian Book Capital 2025. The municipality will receive a prize of 500,000 euros to be invested in initiatives for the development of reading. “the title of Italian Capital of Books is also intended to celebrate the cities of Italy as the propelling center of our civilization,” commented the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.
”Before and more than in the rest of Europe, cities have in fact contributed to drawing the political and cultural geography of our nation, its territories, its populations, in its peculiar symphony of memories, customs and traditions.
Satisfied Domenico Petrini, mayor of Subiaco, who thanks for the Ministry's choice: “It is truly with deep emotion that Subiaco rejoices today. It has been a long journey and it has emerged how difficult the choice was. Subiaco preserves in its heritage a close link with the book thanks to the work done within the Benedictine monasteries, with the first Italian printing press. Subiaco will rise to the occasion; it is a sign of the work done in recent years in honor of a history not only past, but present. In the jubilee year it is an important recognition, it was a team effort.”
