On March 25, 2021, the city of Venice kicks off celebrations for the 1600th anniversary since its founding. To mark this important milestone, a number of events are being planned and will continue until at least March 25, 2022, with the goal to highlight the history, the culture and the qualities that have made Venice the unique place it is, beloved by tourists around the world.
The first official celebratory event will be on Thursday, March 25, 2021, which is exactly 1600 years since the laying, according to tradition, of the first stone of the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto (also known as San Giacométo), Venice’s oldest church: March 25, 421.
