In Sicily, an island that is characterized by its quality wines, there's an area that is the birthplace of a wine that has been considered, especially in the past few years, as a leader in excellence . We are on the slopes of Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, north of Catania.
Etna DOC was born here in, and in 1968 it became the first wine from Sicily to be recognized for its designation of origin. The area's heart is in the area of Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo. The entire area is made up by 20 districts, where the three native grapes of Etna are cultivated: Nerello mascalese (the main one), Nerello cappuccio for reds, and Carricante for whites.
