The foundation of the village is linked to the legend of the discovery of a wooden cross.
It is said that a cow used to be alone from the group every day, and always squatted in the same place.
The pastor, intrigued, he digged in the spot and with great astonishment he found the wooden cross with a sign, incomprehensible for him.
The cross, now housed in the hermitage church of Santa Croce, was carried in a solemn procession on horseback across the town.
Analyses carried out by scholars, indicated that this is the most ancient cross in the whole world, dated circa 2,000 years ago.
Since then, this discovery is celebrated every fourth Sunday of May with a solemn procession.
The festival runs from Friday to Sunday: young people parade with vintage clothes followed by impressive rides.
