Dear Friends of Italian Innovators, I am happy to share with you that my new book The Rise of Americanism in Italy, 1888-1919 is officially out with University of Toronto Press! The book explores the cultural, political, and industrial ascent of the United States at the turn of the 20thcentury from an Italian perspective.

It documents the debate on the nature of American citizenship that took place in the years between Roosevelt and Wilson, at the peak of Italian immigration, and it reconstructs the early export of the American way of life to Italy, as U.S. artists, politicians, philanthropists, and investors travelled to the peninsula, bringing “Americanism” to it.

The book traces the origins of Americanism as both an internal debate and an export ideology, observing its evolution from the external perspective of Italian culture and society. Here is the outline of chapters:

Introduction: The Historical Meanings of Americanism and Americanization
1. The Emigration Debate and the Spreading of Anti-Americanism in Italy (1888–1891)
