Italy's airports surpass pre-COVID passenger levels in 2024

In 2024, Italian airport traffic reached a new record, with 219,078,618 passengers passing through national airports, marking an 11.1% increase compared to 2023. This figure not only highlights a significant post-pandemic recovery but also surpasses pre-COVID levels, restoring traffic distribution to 2019 values: two-thirds of travelers opted for international routes, while one-third chose domestic flights.
 
Analyzing the ranking of the top ten Italian airports by passenger volume in 2024, Rome Fiumicino leads the list with 49,203,734 passengers. It is followed by Milan Malpensa, which recorded 28,910,368 travelers, solidifying its position as the country's second-largest hub. In third place is Bergamo-Orio al Serio Airport, with 17,353,573 passengers.
