The Romans are famous for many excellent works of engineering. Wherever the Romans went, they built large villas, bridges, temples, public baths, and more. Sicily was always an important part of the Roman Empire and there visitors can find impressive Roman ruins - including more of the best Roman villas.
The Villa Romana del Casale is located in the center of the island and is an excellent site to learn about what the Roman villas were like. The Villa Romana del Casale is now known to boast some of the largest, richest, and most varied mosaics of the Roman world. While in Sicily, take the time to see the Valley of the Temples and discover its Greek heritage predating the Roman times.
